Suggested Answer for 2014 O'level A Maths Paper 1 & 2 (4047)

With the A Maths papers ending today, the Maths journey for 2014 O'level finally came to an end =).

The A Maths paper 2 seems to be of higher difficulty as compared to the previous years, or at the least, it seems challenging to finish all the questions within 2.5h. Nonetheless, I find that this year's Maths papers are very well crafted (both A Maths and E Maths). Both papers tested students' in-depth understanding of concepts which can very well differentiate between students who know the concepts and those who didn't. This is rather different from past year papers which just required you to keep doing 10 year series questions and you will be able to score well. This may probably be the starting of a new trend for the next few years.

Here are the suggested answers for both A Maths paper 1 & 2 (4047).

Cheers!

Interesting comments & gift from my students =)

Thanks Nurul, you will not get B3/B4, I have faith in you! A1/A2 is what you should be looking at!

These guys and gal are from the same school same class, we had a lot of fun in class as they are a very cheerful & chirpy lot, even though there were alot of shh-ing from me to keep them serious at work.

Thanks all for your feedback and comments. These guys and 1 gal stay in west as far as Jurong and I am very surprised that they are willing to travel so far and very persistent. As  you guys and gal work hard for your future studies, I will also continue to strive to achieve my aim to be one of the best PSLE Maths-cum-O level A/E Maths tutor in Singapore!

Finally, after 2 days of preparation for the upcoming O' Level 2014 Emaths Paper 2 intensive drill practise in hope to spot some questions for the students and after another 2 days of long lesson hours, I am now able to blog on the upcoming possible questions in Paper 2.

Here are some of the possible question types:

1. Graph plotting: possible with mensuration
2. Quadratic Equation formula, possible with Pythagoras Theorem
3. Trigonometry (probably 2 qns on 3D trigo, Toa cah soh, Pyth Thr, sin/cosine rule, bearing, elevation/depression)
4. Algebraic fractional eqn, subject of formula, complete the square, special product
5. Proving for congruency/similarity/ ratios
6. Mensuration: may have 2 qns: arc length/sector area in radian, sphere, cone, pyramid, cylinder
7.  Ratio, rate, profit& loss, GST, map & area scales, geometrical construction, taxation, utilities
8. Statistics: dot diagram, stem & leaf, cumulative curve, mean, standard deviation
9. Properties of circle: may link with similarity
10. Coordinate geometry: gradient, y-int, equation of line, curve, sketching, find coordinates through simultaneous, may link with vectors
11. Travel graphs, etc.

Good Luck to all for your Emaths paper 2! Hopefully its not as "weird" as paper 1!
